EMPAFORM a term coined Empowering Forest Management is a programme aimed at strengthening civil society to demand and participate effectively in Forest Management in East Africa.
Specifically, the program aims to promote a pro-poor approach to the management and conservation of natural forests in East Africa. EMPAFORM is being implemented as a joint venture of national and international NGOs. The partners include Forest Action Network (FAN), Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) and CARE Kenya in Kenya, Tanzania Forest Conservation Group (TFGG) and CARE Tanzania in Tanzania, and Budongo Forests Community Development Organisation
Additionally, EMPAFORM targets second level CBOs and CFAs as the entry point for building capacity. By strengthening and empowering these organizations, the programme will make the implementation of new forest policies more demand driven and more equitable in addressing the interest and rights of poor men, women and children. |
