 About Us

CARE International in Kenya was founded in 1968 as a development and humanitarian organisation whose purpose is to reduce poverty and provide relief in emergencies. CARE Kenya works with poor communities in North Eastern, Nyanza and Western provinces as well as slum areas of Nairobi. CARE Kenya is dedicated to poverty alleviation and humanitarian relief, organised around three key sectors: HIV/AIDS, Making Markets Work for the Poor and Emergency & Refugee Operations. The organisation employs approximately 355 staff, who work from the headquarters in Nairobi, sub-offices in Dadaab, Kisumu and Garissa and six project offices. CARE Kenya's work continues to evolve in response to emerging challenges in combating poverty and emergencies. Whereas the trend in economic development shows a decline in poverty levels, the gaps between the rich and the poor is continuously widening and more and more poor people are sliding into destitution.
